مهندسی ژنتیک، دستکاری مستقیم ژنهای یک موجود زنده با استفاده علم فناوری زیستی است. مهندسی ژنتیک، مجموعهای از فناوریهایی است که برای تغییر ساختار ژنتیکی سلولها، از جمله انتقال ژنها در داخل و در محدوده ژنتیکی گونهها، برای تولید ارگانیسم بهبود یافته یا جدید بهکار میرود.
