زبان نشانه گذاری فرامتن، زبان نوشتاری پایه است که در آن از مرورگرهای شبکه برای ارائه صفحات تارنما در شبکه جهانی تارگستر (www) استفاده میشود. زبان نشانهگذاری فرامتن، مجموعهای از نمادها یا کدهای نشانهگذاری است که در پروندهای برای نمایش در اینترنت درج میشود. این نشانهگذاریها به مرورگرهای تارنما میگوید چگونه کلمات و تصاویر را به نمایش بگذارد.
