A takeover occurs when one company makes a successful bid to assume control of or acquire another. Takeovers can be done by purchasing a majority stake in the target firm. Takeovers are also commonly done through the merger and acquisition process. In a takeover, the company making the bid is the acquirer and the company it wishes to take control of is called the target.
تصاحب، هنگامی روی می‌دهد که یک شرکت برای به‌دست گرفتن کنترل یا تصاحب شرکت دیگری، پیشنهاد خرید موفقی را ارائه می‌دهد. تصاحب‌ها را می‌توان با خرید اکثریت سهام شرکت مورد نظر انجام داد. تصاحب نیز به‌طور معمول از طریق فرایند ادغام و تملک انجام می‌شود. در تصاحب، شرکتی که پیشنهاد خرید را می‌دهد تصاحب کننده (خریدار) و شرکتی که می‌خواهد کنترل آن را به‌دست بگیرد، شرکت هدف نامیده می‌شود.
